Exploring the Archetypes: Finding the Fragrance That Speaks to Your Soul
When I first began working on the Archetypes Collection, I wanted to do more than just create beautiful fragrances. I wanted to create perfumes that resonated deeply with people, connecting not only with their senses but also with their personalities, their inner selves, and the stories they carry. Each one of us embodies certain archetypes—universal patterns of behavior and character that reflect different aspects of our personalities. Whether you’re the daring Rebel or the loyal Companion, there’s a fragrance in the Archetypes Collection that will resonate with the essence of who you are.
Carl Jung and the Power of Archetypes
Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, is one of the most influential figures in modern psychology. He is best known for his development of the concept of archetypes—universal, mythic patterns that reside in the collective unconscious and are shared by all human beings. Jung believed that these archetypes, such as The Hero, The Rebel, and The Nurturer, are fundamental components of human nature, shaping how we think, act, and interact with the world.
Jung’s theories have had a profound impact on various fields, from psychology to literature, and even the arts. His work suggested that by understanding these archetypes, we can gain a deeper insight into our own personalities and life journeys. Jung's archetypes are timeless; they connect us to the primal instincts and stories that have shaped human culture for centuries. By recognizing and embracing our own inner archetype, we can unlock a better understanding of who we are and what drives us.
I was inspired by Jung’s groundbreaking work when creating the Archetypes Collection. I wanted to craft a line of fragrances that could tap into these deep, universal patterns, allowing individuals to connect with their true selves in a way that goes beyond mere scent. The process of aligning a fragrance with an archetype is not just about mixing the right ingredients—it's about understanding the essence of each archetype and reflecting that energy in the perfume’s composition.
The Research and Process Behind the Archetypes Collection
The journey to creating the Archetypes Collection was a deep and fascinating one. I started by researching the 12 archetypes that Jung identified, as well as those that had emerged from modern interpretations. I studied literature, myth, and even personal accounts from individuals who identified strongly with specific archetypes. Through this, I learned that each archetype has its own emotional energy, life experiences, and personal strengths. The fragrances I created needed to reflect these attributes.
Once I had a clear understanding of each archetype’s essence, I began sourcing ingredients that would enhance and embody those characteristics. For example, The Rebel, which symbolizes boldness and defiance, needed a fragrance that felt assertive and powerful. I chose a sort of dirty/earthy patchouli, sharp citrus, and raw jasmine for the feminine version, and aromatic spices, bitter whiskey notes, and blackberry in the masculine version, to create a fragrance that immediately made an impression. Similarly, for The Nurturer, a comforting archetype focused on care and compassion, I sought out soothing florals like peony and iris combined with white musk for the feminine version and green pine, oakmoss, and vetiver for the masculine version to create a soft, enveloping fragrance.
A Fragrance for Every Archetype
Every fragrance in the Archetypes Collection was carefully designed to mirror the psychological makeup of the archetype it represents. But it wasn’t just about the emotional energy I wanted to convey—it was about the ingredients that could capture that essence. For example, The Philosopher has a more grounding, introspective feel, with notes of dewy grass, wet soil, and petrichor to help harmonize your soul to the Earth.
Each fragrance represents a unique emotional landscape, shaped by an archetype that speaks to a universal part of the human experience. I believe that when you find your perfect match from the Archetypes Collection, you’re not just wearing a fragrance—you’re embracing a piece of your soul.
